The idea of Nick Saban returning to coaching after his sudden January 2024 retirement has been reignited in the mainstream following Brian Kelly's firing as the LSU Tigers' head football coach this past weekend.

USA Today's Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams had questions about the logistics of a Saban return to Baton Rouge, but they entertained the possibility of the Alabama Crimson Tide advisor jumping ship to the first team he ever won a national championship with.

"Can't see Saban failing, but how hot do his fires still burn? Is he ready to embrace the NIL/transfer era?" asked Adams.

"Saban wouldn't flop, but his detestation of pay-for-play concerns me. He'd need to accept that's the way to winning now," Toppmeyer said.

CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer tabbed Saban a candidate for LSU immediately after Kelly was fired, claiming that he might not be able to resist a "tempting" return to the Tigers. At the time, Hummer had Scott Woodward as the guy who'd ask. Woodward has since been let go from LSU after Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry ripped him and Jimmy Sexton for negotiating a big contract/buyout for Kelly that the state's taxpayers will have to pay for.

Alabama fans would lose it if Nick Saban became LSU's head coach

There's been viral tweets claiming Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium should be removed just 13 months after it was renamed with an on-field ceremony during a 42-16 win for the Tide over the USF Bulls.

Alabama fans are not ready for Saban to take the LSU job. It'd cause hurt feelings and perhaps the rescinding of the kind of revering the program has been offering since his six national championships in Tuscaloosa.

It'd be glorious, even if there's a chance the Bayou Bengals would become the team to beat in 2026 and beyond.

Apparently, it's not impossible. Even if it's extremely improbable based on everything Saban has said about enjoying his retirement with Miss Terry.
