When head coach Hugh Freeze arrived on the Plains several years ago, one of his biggest tasks was building up and improving Auburn football's offensive line position group. Recruitment of o-linemen has steadily improved over the past few years, and the addition of players from the transfer portal has continuously strengthened the group.
This year, one of the Tigers' biggest additions to the o-line was former USC Trojan Mason Murphy. He spent four years at USC and eventually became a multi-year starter for the Trojans. He entered the transfer portal and committed to Auburn football in December 2024.
He has spent spring training working as the Tigers' starter at right tackle, and although the offensive line group has been somewhat limited due to injuries, Murphy believes the group has a brigh
"I have been blessed to play college football for some time," Murphy said, per Auburn Undercover. "I have been a part of a lot of really good o-line rooms. I would say this is one of the more talented groups I have been around. It has been a lot of fun playing next to these guys and being in the o-line room and film room with them all day. They are a bunch of really good people. Not only good football players, but really good people. It's uplifting to be around for sure."
Murphy went on to send a strong message about the offensive line.
"We could win the Joe Moore (Award), for sure," Murphy said. "I think we are the most talented group in the country. It's just about the discipline and technique we use on the field and going out there with the right mentality."
Auburn football will continue spring practice through April 12 when they will host an open practice free of charge in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
