Former USC offensive tackle Mason Murphy has committed to Auburn football
The offensive line is a major position of need for the Auburn football program heading into the 2025 season, and the coaching staff has been hitting the portal hard in search of additional talent. Earlier this week, the Tigers landed former Virginia Tech left tackle Xavier Chaplin, which was a major pickup.
Now, the Tigers have their second offensive line commit from the portal. On Monday night, former USC offensive tackle Mason Murphy announced his commitment to Auburn football. Ranked as the #5 OT in the transfer portal, Murphy will have one year of eligibility left.
A San Juan Capistrano, California, native, Murphy was ranked as a 3-star offensive lineman out of high school and signed with the Trojans in their recruiting class of 2021. He redshirted his freshman year but played in all games the next few seasons with a couple of starts. He became a full-time starter in the 2024 season and led the team in snaps.
With Izavion "Too Tall" Miller out of eligibility and Jeremiah Wright's return still up in the air, the Tigers' coaching staff will likely be looking to add at least two more linemen from the portal if they can get them.
Murphy is the eighth player to commit to Auburn football out of the transfer portal. He follows former Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold, former UConn RB Durell Robinson, former Oklahoma State punter Hudson Kaak, former Virginia Tech OT Xavier Chaplin, former Miami (OH) cornerback Raion Strader, former Georgia Tech safety Taye Seymore, and former Stanford QB Ashton Daniels.
Another position of need that the Tigers are really focused on is tight end. Two tight ends visited campus over the weekend (former Kentucky TE Khamari Anderson and former Elon TE Cody Hardy) and another will visit this weekend: former Maryland TE Preston Howard.
