Walker White didn't get many chances in Auburn football's offense under Hugh Freeze. Specifically, White got five passing attempts and one game worth of snaps: during garbage time against ULM back in Week 12.
Perhaps that's why he seemingly took a side swipe at Auburn when he committed to Baylor, praising Bears offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.
"I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and get to work in Coach Spavital’s offense. I’m also excited that there’s a clear plan for quarterback development," White told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
White seemed to be the team's future back when he committed. A 4-star out of Little Rock Christian Academy, White was seemingly the team's long-term plan at QB once Payton Thorne was out of the program. Hank Brown figured to be his primary competition, while Holden Geriner hung around hoping to finally break through after a few redshirt seasons.
Now, all of them are gone. Brown committed to Iowa. News on Geriner is sparse as he looks for his next home. White has found a place where he feels he can get a chance to develop.
Auburn isn't in a bad place at QB, though. Far from it.
Jackson Arnold is now QB1, and Ashton Daniels is his backup. Both have Power 4 experience from this past season.
Joining them is Lucedale, Mississippi star Deuce Knight. The incoming Tigers freshman broke records at George County and brings dual-threat abilities to an RPO-based offense that could use his particular set of skills.
It'll be interesting to see if Arnold, Daniels, or Knight share a similar sentiment to White this time next offseason or if Freeze can finally make the most out of the talent he's brought to the Plains.
