The nightmare is over for Auburn basketball fans. No. 2 seed Alabama has finally been knocked out of the NCAA tournament in an overtime loss to No. 11 seed UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen round of March Madness.

It would be unfair not to acknowledge the talent of the Alabama basketball team, and to admit they had a spectacular season as SEC champs and SEC tournament champs. However, after spending the 2020 season enduring endless comparisons between Auburn’s 2018-2019 Final Four team and this Alabama team, it sure is nice to see all those commentators and analysts proved wrong.

Not to mention the Bama fans, themselves. Throughout the 2020 season, Alabama fans consistently put down Auburn’s 2019 team instead of focusing on their team’s wins.

Facts are facts, guys: the 2018-2019 Auburn basketball team beat three blue bloods in No. 1 seed UNC, No. 2 seed Kentucky, and No. 4 seed Kansas to eventually fall in the Final Four while this Alabama team beat No. 15 seed Iona, No. 10 seed Maryland, and then lost to No. 11 seed UCLA in the Sweet Sixteen.

Of course, their season and their tournament run is a major accomplishment and something for the Crimson Tide to be proud of, but it definitely isn’t a Final Four run, and Auburn fans made sure they remembered that after Sunday night’s game:

Congratulations to Alabama for a great season, but let’s end the comparisons to Auburn basketball’s Final Four team because, if it wasn’t before, it should be abundantly clear now that the two teams are not on the same level.
