Another Saturday on the Plains means that Auburn football is announcing two more Iron Men of the Week. The honors–given to one player on the defense and one player on the offense–recognize the hard work of two Auburn football players during the spring season.

Things are heating up for new head coach Bryan Harsin’s Tigers as they’ve finished up their allotted 15 spring practices and competed in the A-Day game, the annual spring scrimmage. While many questions remain after A-Day, it’s clear that Harsin and his staff are in the process of enacting the culture change they have harped on for so long.

In the wake of the spring game, wide receiver Caylin Newton and safety Devin Guice were both named this week’s Iron Men of the Week.

Caylin Newton, the younger brother of former Auburn quarterback and current NFL star Cam Newton, came to the Plains in 2020 as a grad transfer from Howard University. According to AuburnTigers.com, Newton added receiver depth and also played on the kickoff return team.

Prior to his time at Auburn, Newton was the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference MVP after passing for 2,629 yards and rushing for 504 yards, recording 26 total touchdowns. In the upcoming season, we can expect to see Newton playing in the same group as Elijah Canion and Ze’Vian Capers.

On the defensive side of things, Devin Guice has played in 11 total games in his four years at Auburn after walking on to the team in 2016. The cornerback contributed on special teams in the 2019 season and played three games in the 2020 season, including Ole Miss, LSU, and Auburn’s bowl game opponent, Northwestern.

War Eagle and congratulations to two Auburn men!
