Auburn football: Seth Williams projected anywhere from rounds 3-6
Auburn football fans hoping to hear the name of a former Tiger may hear the name of one of the team’s top two wide receivers from 2020 tonight…or tomorrow.
Anthony Schwartz and Seth Williams both figure to have legitimate shots of being a top-three option on whatever team they land on, but it isn’t known which of the Tiger duo will be the first to fly off the board.
Or on which night that will happen.
While Williams has more of an NFL build, Schwartz’s speed could have teams reaching for the Pembroke Pines-turned-Plains product to find the perfect slot weapon. Williams is more of a boundary specialist, but NFL scouts worry about his ability to separate from defenders in the air and make the big play…even though he proved capable of doing so in the Tigers offense with both Jarrett Stidham and Bo Nix.
That’s why Fanduel’s Larry Rupp is split on where Williams might land in the 2021 NFL Draft:
"The 2021 NFL Draft class is full of talent at every position and that includes the wide receiver spot. Auburn’s Seth Williams speaks to that depth as he racked up 2,214 yards on 132 receptions and scored 17 touchdowns in three seasons (33 games played) with the Tigers.Williams’ draft stock has both risen and fallen throughout the offseason and he is projected to be taken between Round 3 and 6.Sporting News: New Orleans Saints (No. 105)CBS Sports: Cleveland Browns (No. 110) | Cleveland Browns (No. 211)"
As Rupp notes, the WR is stacked this year. Three receivers were selected in the top 11 picks, and like Auburn football’s Williams, they all emanated from the SEC.
The beauty of the NFL is that all it takes is landing with the right game-changing quarterback to make it in a meaningful way. Doing so makes achieving stardom at the WR position a lot easier, as stats-obsessed fantasy football fans will get you trending on any given Sunday for a weekly matchup-shifting game performance.
Williams could end up being a bigger star than Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, or even Heisman winner Devonta Smith when it’s all said and done. Just ask Wes Welker or Danny Amendola what the right QB could do.
Here’s to that optimistic, if unlikely, dream coming true. War Eagle!
