The Auburn basketball team has been on fire in the recruiting process lately, picking up major talent from the NCAA transfer portal. However, Bruce Pearl could not beat out the G-League Ignite for class of 2021 recruit Scoot Henderson.

Henderson has officially made the decision to bypass the collegiate route and head straight to the pros, making him the youngest professional basketball player in history at the age of 17. The point guard has reclassified to the class of 2021 and committed to the G-League Ignite, a development team for NBA prospects.

For some young recruits, the allure of heading straight to the pros and getting a paycheck right away makes the restrictions of playing in the NCAA seem like the less attractive option. Henderson told the NY Times that his main goal was always to get to the NBA, and he’s taking this opportunity to get there:

"“You know how every kid has their own path?” Henderson said. “My main goal was just to get to the N.B.A. and be there for a very long time. The fact that I have an opportunity to go there and I’m one step away from it, it’s just huge. And I took that opportunity.”"

While it’s incredible that Henderson gets to follow his dreams, it means that the Auburn basketball team and the world of college basketball miss out on another fantastic high school prospect to the tune of Jalen Green. The Auburn family wishes Henderson the very best of luck, but all my homies hate the G-League.

It’s hard to turn down a million-dollar bag to play on a college team, even if it is Bruce Pearl’s Auburn Tigers. We’ll miss out on seeing Scoot Henderson in orange and blue, but Fly War Eagle wishes him all the success in the pros.
