The recruiting momentum for the Auburn football team continues to build as first-year head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff add a former No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the nation to the roster.

Demetris Robertson, a grad transfer making his way to the Plains from UGA, began his collegiate career as a 5-star receiver at Cal. As a freshman, Robertson recorded 50 catches for 767 yards and seven touchdowns, while also racking up 202 yards in kick returns. Robertson was sidelined for most of the following season due to injury and entered the transfer portal after the 2017 season.

Robertson took his talents back to his home state, but he didn’t record a single catch in his first year at UGA. 2019 was a more successful season for Robertson, who hauled in 30 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

After a less-than-impressive 2020 season at Georgia, Roberston entered the transfer portal once again, and today the wide receiver committed to Auburn football:

Robertson adds much-needed experience to a wide receivers room that is full of potential after struggling to find a place for himself on Kirby Smart’s roster. He will have one year of eligibility left, and hopefully, wide receivers coach Cornelius Williams can bring the 2016 version of Robertson to the Plains.

According to Dawgs247, the wide receiver had a strong showing at the five-week spring camp and looked impressive during Georgia’s spring G-Day game:

"He went through spring with the team and persons with knowledge of the situation told Dawgs247 that he had a strong showing during the five-week camp. That showed on G-Day when he caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Daniels and finished with four grabs for 88 yards."

Demetris Robertson fits the offensive plan of the new coaching staff, per Jake Crain of The JBoy Show, and at the same time will take pressure off of the less-experienced receivers on the roster. Not only can Robertson be a veteran leader for the Tigers, but he’s also had the benefit of playing on a competitive SEC team that has winning experience.
