Auburn football 2022 commit Damari Alston has famously assigned himself the role of unofficial Director of Recruiting for the Tigers, and it’s a role he has taken very seriously.

With a stacked RB room set to take the field this upcoming fall, Alston is doing all he can to stand out with Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter likely sitting ahead of him on the RB depth chart.

Given all the defections from the Alabama Crimson Tide program in the wake of their 33-18 National Championship loss to the Georgia Bulldogs this past Monday, you figured it was only a matter of time before one came up on AU’s radar.

In Alston tweeting out to ‘Bama WR defection Javon Baker, that time has come:

Per 247Sports’ BamaOnline, Baker makes the 12th loss from the Tide’s football team this week:

"Including Baker, 12 Alabama players entered the transfer portal either during or after the 202 season. Those other players were defensive back Marcus Banks (Mississippi State), Xavier Williams (Utah State), Pierce Quick (Georgia Tech), Jackson Bratton (UAB), Paul Tyson, Drew Sanders, Tommy Brown, Jahleel Billingsley, King Mwikuta, Jaylen Moody and Shane Lee."

Baker, an Atlanta product, did not receive significant opportunities from Nick Saban in his two seasons in Tuscaloosa. He came down with just nine receptions, 116 yards, and a touchdown during his time with the Tide.

A move to the Plains would be the end of any relationships he has with the ‘team up north’, but it may be worth nuking them for a bigger chance to show out with Auburn football.

Kobe Hudson’s UCF departure, coupled with the losses of super-senior Demetris Robertson and Elijah Canion to Purdue, opens up the WR room significantly.

A handful of incoming freshman will be entering the WR mix, but Baker has a real chance to live out his dream of being an SEC star in the Yellowhammer State, only this time playing for the good guys.
