Auburn football had an extremely successful weekend of recruiting on the Plains, pulling a large number of top prospects to campus for a Junior Day visit on March 19. The visiting prospects got the opportunity to watch the team practice and hear from several former players at the event.
One of the biggest names to make the trip was 4-star offensive tackle Bo Hughley.
Listed as the #53 overall prospect and the #5 offensive tackle in the recruiting class of 2023, Hughley is the #3 prospect out of the state of Georgia, per 247 Sports. Hughley has been committed to Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs since September, but Auburn football is not slowing down in their recruitment of the OT.
Saturday marked Hughley’s third trip to the Plains, and further solidified the strong relationship that has been building between the prospect and offensive line coach Will Friend.
Auburn Live reports that Hughley’s interest in Auburn continues to grow because of his bond with Friend and how the coach is consistently pushing him to better his game:
"“I like Coach Friend,” Hughley said. “He tries to help me improve my game. All of the coaches tell me I’m good, but Coach Friend actually tells me my flaws and what I need to work on.”"
Hughley went on to say that he likes Auburn “a lot” and that he plans to be back for another visit in the future. So does this mean the Tigers have a legitimate chance to flip Hughley from his commitment to the Dawgs? When asked, Hughley’s response was a solid “maybe.”
With Georgia’s Matt Luke stepping down following the 2021-22 season, the Auburn football coaches got a massive opportunity to pitch their program and their staff to Hughley, and clearly, they’re making the UGA commit think twice about where he will begin his collegiate career.
