One of Auburn football’s top defensive back targets in the recruiting class of 2023 has set an official visit date to the Plains, a major step in his recruitment. His announcement comes at a busy recruiting time for the Tigers as well as programs around the country as high school prospects are in the midst of cutting down their list of potential schools and setting important visits.

While many official visits to the Plains are happening in the upcoming summer months, it will be a little while longer before Auburn football gets Tony Mitchell on campus as he’s set his official visit for the weekend of October 29, when the Tigers play Arkansas in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Tony Mitchell is ranked as the #20 overall prospect and the #3 cornerback in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #3 recruit out of the state of Alabama. As a 5-star prospect, he’s wanted by programs all over the country, and head coach Bryan Harsin and secondary coach Zac Etheridge are working hard to keep his talent in the state and away from Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

In fact, Mitchell’s relationship with Auburn football’s coaches are one of the main factors that have kept the Tigers in his recruitment so long, per Auburn Undercover:

"“It’s just my relationship with Coach Etheridge and Coach Harsin,” Mitchell said recently of what stands out about the Tigers. “I’m real cool with their staff. I’m needed at the program and I would have an opportunity to come in and play early and just be a major part of the program.”"

Mitchell was on the Plains recently on April 23, and spent time with another top target in Jahlil Hurley as well as class of 2023 offensive line commit Bradyn Joiner.

Though Mitchell is currently still projected to commit to Alabama, a visit to campus during a home football game could certainly spin things in Auburn football’s favor.
