Auburn football: 4-star LB high on Coach Christian Robinson
With only four commits so far in the recruiting class of 2023, there is still a lot of recruiting work to be done for the Auburn football coaching staff. The NCAA dead period lasts until nearly the end of this month, but it’s followed by one of the Tigers’ biggest recruiting events of the summer: Big Cat Weekend.
Though it’s too soon for a complete visitor list, many priority recruits will make their way to the Plains for the last weekend in July. However, the Tigers are still in good standing with some top prospects that do not plan to attend Big Cat Weekend, including 4-star linebacker Lewis Carter.
With no linebackers committed to the 2023 roster so far, landing Carter would be a big win for head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff. Carter is ranked as the #177 overall prospect and the #12 linebacker in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #36 recruit out of the state of Florida.
While Carter does not plan to attend Big Cat Weekend, he already took an official visit to campus last month on June 17, and walked away very impressed with the Auburn football program and his would-be position coach Christian Robinson, per Auburn Live:
"“I enjoyed it,” Carter said. “It was good being around (linebackers coach Christian Robinson) and stuff like that. Great people. I feel like it’s a place I can be and see myself being at for three to five years.”"
According to the linebacker, the other schools that stand out to him are UNC, Oklahoma, and UCF. He plans to make an official commitment decision next month on August 23, and so far, the Tigers are in the lead to win over the 4-star linebacker.
The Auburn football coaches are expected to take multiple linebackers in the class of 2023, and Lewis Carter could be the first LB commit of next year’s class.
