The Auburn football coaching staff has been staying on top of the recruitments of several LSU commits throughout the 2023 recruiting cycle, especially with Trovon Reed and his Louisiana influence in the back pocket.

Now, after LSU’s season-opening loss against Florida State, will things get a little interesting? In the recruitment of 4-star defensive lineman Darron Reed. Hailing from Columbus, Georgia, Reed is ranked as the #231 overall prospect and the #36 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 as well as the #21 recruit out of the Peach State.

Earlier in the summer, Reed visited the Auburn football program but hinted that the Tigers might be out of it for joining his recruitment too late, and then in July he committed to Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers. Now, however, things seem to be heating up in Bryan Harsin’s favor.

Auburn defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh has been leading the charge when it comes to Reed’s recruitment, and getting him on campus for this game was a big deal, especially because now the DL has plans to return to the Plains for both the Penn State game later this month and the LSU game in early October, per Auburn Live:

"“I enjoyed it,” Reed said. “I was looking for the defensive line to get after the ball. (Defensive line coach Jimmy) Brumbaugh told me this summer they’d get after the ball and they did. I saw it on the field.”"

Reed noted that everything Brumbaugh has told him was shown on the field Saturday and that while he remains firmly committed to the Bayou Bengals at this time, the Auburn Tigers have certainly given him a lot to think about.

With Auburn’s late entrance into Reed’s recruitment, the defensive lineman is at least interested in figuring out what the Tigers have to offer before signing with LSU.
