Although the Auburn football team pulled off a miraculous win against Missouri in their SEC opener this weekend, it’s likely that the “w” is only prolonging the inevitable for head coach Bryan Harsin.
When the powers that be came together to try to force the Tigers’ head coach out earlier this year, Auburn football fans and players swarmed to support their head coach, insisting he needed a fair chance before he was kicked off the Plains.
However, over the last two weeks, nearly all of the support Harsin had from the fanbase has dried up. Between the embarrassing loss at home to Penn State and the ugly win over Mizzou, it seems that nearly everyone is on the same page about wanting to close the book on Bryan Harsin.
But it’s not just the gameplay so far this season–it’s also the recruiting. The Tigers are struggling big time when it comes to recruiting the class of 2023, with only 10 commits and the #55 class in the nation, it’s clear that the program is struggling on and off the field.
So, when does the bleeding stop? When does Auburn football move on from head coach Bryan Harsin and change the direction of the spiraling program? According to CBS’ Barrett Sallee, very soon:
"Those power brokers nearly orchestrated a coup in February to oust Harsin after a 6-7 record in 2021, and mass defections from players and coaches following the season didn’t help. It’s unlikely that they will get their wish and hand Harsin the pink slip after the win, but that outcome seems like only a matter of time."
The sooner a change happens, the better it will be for Auburn. Although Harsin probably never got a completely fair chance at being the head coach, it’s becoming more and more clear that he will not be the head coach in 2023, and if the Tigers want to have a respectable recruiting class, a future coaching staff will need to be named.
