The Auburn football head coaching seat currently occupied by Bryan Harsin is ablaze at the moment and could ultimately burn the Boise native out of the Plains if LSU does what Mizzou refused to do on September 24.

Brian Kelly will have his first true road game at Jordan-Hare Stadium under the lights on October 1 after hosting Florida State in a neutral site Week 1 opener in New Orleans an hour and change from LSU’s campus. Having had just one down year at Notre Dame in 2016, this is his first chance to prove he can still coach a double-digit win team — this time in a conference that is akin to a shark pit, the SEC West.

If he can get the job done and move his Tigers to 4-1, Harsin will lose control of his and hop on the first flight back up to Idaho. Most expect that to happen as soon as possible; if not this coming Saturday then by the Georgia game Between the Hedges on October 8.

Names like Deion Sanders and Hugh Freeze being tossed around as potential replacements, but an in-conference option that could intrigue many is Lane Kiffin. Kiffin has brought Ole Miss to heights Matt Luke couldn’t and has elevated the Rebels brand to one in the SEC West conversation every season. As great as it would be to have him running Auburn football, though, it doesn’t appear as though that is close to happening based on his social media activity…

Auburn football must look elsewhere for their next head coach

It certainly doesn’t get much more obvious about your opinion towards the Auburn football head coaching job than by posting an article titled ‘Forget Auburn or Nebraska. Lane Kiffin and Mark Stoops can make playoff already’ (subscription required).

Lane Kiffin is clearly focused on continuing to lead Ole Miss, and quite frankly, Tiger fans shouldn’t be chomping at the bit to get a guy who doesn’t seem satisfied by any program. That he wants to stick in Oxford should actually be seen as a positive should he ever want more money and prestige at his next role.

Deion Sanders is already the most exciting fit out there, but if ‘Prime Time’ doesn’t see the Plains as a possibility, there is always the possibility of elevating in-house alumni like Zac Etheridge, Cadillac Williams, or Trovon Reed into the role to fire up a fanbase that has been hurting since November 2021.
