Auburn football is pursuing this class of 2023 quarterback
The Auburn football team is experiencing a year on the Plains that has had the highest of highs and lowest of lows. After a grueling first half of the season that brought loss after loss, the Tigers finally parted ways with former head coach Bryan Harsin and named Carnell “Cadillac” Williams the interim head coach.
The energy on the Plains changed completely with Cadillac taking over the team, but the on-field product isn’t the only thing that Coach Caddy has to worry about this late in the season. Though the Tigers have only two games left this year, shortly after the final game comes Early National Signing Day, which is hugely important for recruiting.
Even though Auburn football is without a permanent head coach, the recruiting train can’t stop, and it hasn’t. After missing on their priority targets for the quarterback position earlier this year, it seemed likely that the Tigers wouldn’t take a quarterback in this recruiting cycle, but now they have set their sights on 3-star Keyone Jenkins.
The Miami-Central quarterback is currently committed to Florida International, but visited Auburn’s campus for the Texas A&M game and walked away with an offer. According to Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live, Jenkins planned to commit to the Tigers this past Wednesday, but decided to wait until a new head coach was named.
Should Jenkins commit to the Tigers, he would not only add to the quarterback room, but would also help boost the situation with another target of the Auburn football program in 4-star edge Rueben Bain, who is Jenkins’ teammate and cousin. The pair visited the Plains together for the A&M matchup, and the Tigers continue to make Bain a high priority in the class of 2023.
Once the new staff is hired, it’s possible there is no longer interest in Jenkins, but he would likely sign if his offer still stands, and it would certainly help the Tigers’ campaign to land Rueben Bain, as well.
