The College Football Playoff Selection Committee has an obvious answer to the highly controversial question of who to put in the 12-team field between the Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish:
Put in both and send the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer into the sun following a 28-7 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game from Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Yahoo Sports' Dan Wolken, far from a supporter of the Auburn Tigers, gave the Plains the satisfying College Football Playoff solution that could save plenty of headaches and heartache that he believes would haunt the sport for "decades."
"For several weeks, the hottest topic around the playoff has largely centered on Notre Dame being ranked ahead of Miami despite identical 10-2 records, a similar strength of schedule and the latter’s head-to-head victory in Week 1 of the season," Wolken prefaced before asking, "But why not include both?
"Heading into championship weekend, it seemed impossible. There wasn’t enough room in the 12-team field for both No. 10 Notre Dame and No. 12 Miami. There is, however, one way it could work: Dropping Alabama out of the field entirely.
"It’s a lever the committee almost certainly doesn’t want to pull. But after watching the Crimson Tide get obliterated by Georgia, it is the only way the committee can avoid a self-inflicted controversy that would haunt the CFP for decades."
James Madison could make further Alabama's embarrassment
What a thrill it'd be for the Sun Belt's James Madison Dukes to be the second Group of 5 conference champion to get a CFP slot at the Tide's expense. The G5 could be legitimized by its first non-auto bid entry into the CFP field.
Does anyone actually think Alabama would put up any bigger of a fight against the overlord Ohio State Buckeyes, Indiana Hoosiers, or Texas Tech Red Raiders? UGA just proved how far behind DeBoer's program is.
War Eagle to the CFP selection committee if JMU gets their due and the Tide end up in a non-New Year's Six bowl.
