It was a Happy Father's Day for coach Alex Golesh and all the fathers of the Auburn Tigers football coaching staff that got tangible evidence they're doing their jobs right with several commitments on Sunday.
Whether it was flipping a 3-star running back from a Big 12 squad or keeping an in-state two-way athlete in the Yellowhammer State, Golesh and Auburn kept momentum in what's been a strong summer on the Plains.
Here are the highlights of a strong weekend on the trail:
Auburn flips 3-star Memphis RB from West Virginia
The Tigers nabbed Southwind star running back Khamoni Williams from the Memphis area just nine days after committing to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Williams is the third running back in the 2027 class and committed after a secret visit to Auburn this weekend. Soon, though, that number could be reduced to two.
Though he committed to AU at the beginning of June, 4-star St. Mary's (MO) RB Kingston Miles looks like a potential Missouri Tigers flip. Even the Alabama Crimson Tide are pushing for Miles. It seems Williams might've been a hedge for Miles' potentially imminent flip.
Auburn keeps Skipperville product in the state of Alabama
In another piece of feel-good news from over the weekend, 3-star George W Long ATH Preston Williams also chose the Loveliest Village. Williams is mostly a safety by trade, but has plied his trade at the receiver position as well.
Williams made it clear that this commitment was a long-time coming, and probably shut his recruitment down in one fell swoop. Per Williams upon committing, “Today, that faith and hard work have lead me to a dream come true. I am blessed and honored to announce my commitment to Auburn University. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Especially my parents for always believing in me! Truly, I’ve always been an Auburn man! I Love Auburn and believe in it! War Eagle!”
Williams has good size at six-foot-two. If he can put on size, he may be able to fit into DJ Durkin's defense at the "viper" spot.
Layton von Brandt reaffirms commitment to Auburn
4-star Appoquinimink (DE) left tackle Layton von Brandt is one of the crown jewels of Golesh's 2027 recruiting class. Luckily, it looks like von Brandt isn't having any second thoughts about his decision to wear the orange and blue.
"Great weekend on the plains ... just confirmed what I already knew ... Auburn football is home. 1000% locked in....can't wait to be back for a game this season," von Brandt said in an X post on Sunday. von Brandt tagged Golesh, OL coach Tyler Hudanick, assistant OL coaches Parker Ball and Micah James, offensive analyst Chris Kapilovic, and Director of Recruiting Strategy & External Engagement Jolie Ale in the post.
It's critical that von Brandt doesn't get wandering eyes and reconsiders the Notre Dame Fighting Irish's offer. From the looks of it, he isn't getting the sort of cold feet on his commitment that others seemed to have within weeks of their choices.
