When Auburn hired Alex Golesh away from USF in the offseason, fans were ecstatic as Golesh did things with a Group of Five program that Hugh Freeze was never able to accomplish. Now, as Golesh has gotten through his first spring season and is heading into the thick of the 2027 recruiting cycle, he is starting to make strides.
While it started off slow, Golesh has been able to land three players for the class of 2027, two four-star and one three-star. Having come in later to the game than other coaches, Golesh has done well, winning some battles and being in the running for some top recruits.
While Golesh has also lost a few, like five-star quarterback Will Mencl to Oregon, he has also been able to lure a few players to The Plains, like Myson Johnson-Cook, who at one point was predicted to commit to Miami.
All of this work has really helped Golesh build his class, and the commitment from Johnson-Cook vaulted Auburn's recruiting class to No. 12 in the country, according to Rivals.

Now that Golesh has a little momentum from the Johnson-Cook commitment, he can't let it go, especially going into the summer months. These next few months will be crucial for Golesh in building the future of Auburn football.
Auburn has the money to compete with the big programs, and Golesh has the track record from USF to back up what he can do. While Golesh only has three players in the 2027 recruiting class right now, he is bound to get more with many 2027 recruits planning to make commitments with official visits happening soon.
Golesh has a lot to prove at Auburn in his first season, but it should be remembered that he took over a pretty rough program from the Hugh Freeze days, so some grace may need to be given at the start.
