Two former USF offensive players will reunite with new Auburn Tigers football head coach Alex Golesh on the Plains. The pair are only the most recent former USF players to commit to their former head coach, and after maintaining one of the best offenses in the country last year he has good reason to bring them on to the roster.
Golesh and his coaching staff have had a busy first few days of the transfer portal, and it's paying off in the form of signees. Former USF running back Nykahi Davenport and tight end Jonathan Echols are the latest players to sign with the Tigers from the transfer portal.
Davenport is a native of Roswell, Georgia, and signed with the Bulls as a member of the recruiting class of 2024. He ran for 612 yards and seven touchdowns last season as a redshirt freshman, and was the Bulls' second-most highly ranked offensive player. He joins Jeremiah Cobb, Omar Mabson and Alvin Henderson in the Tigers' running back room, and could be the perfect player to assist Cobb next season.
The other former Bull to commit this morning is tight end Jonathan Echols, who also spent the last two years at USF. With three years of eligibility left, Echols was eager to reunite with his former offensive staff at Auburn.
"It's just the staff," Echols said, per Auburn Undercover. "I already had my belief and trust in them for five years now. So just what they've got going on and what they've got building here is going to be good. It's just the relationship that I've built with them. The love and the trust that we've all got with each other."
In his career at USF, Echols recorded 20 receptions for 168 yards and four touchdowns, with most of the action coming this past season as a sophomore. He will join Ryan Ghea—the only returning tight end on the Plains—in the position group.
