Auburn football recruiting has improved leaps and bounds over the last several years under Head Coach Hugh Freeze, and while there is a big emphasis on high school recruitment, a big factor in the Tigers' success has also been pulling players from the transfer portal.
Last year, transfer wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith was one of the stars on Auburn's offense, and there was pressure on the coaching staff to replace him this season. Enter Eric Singleton Jr.
The wide receiver began his career at Georgia Tech, earning freshman All-American and ACC offensive rookie of the year runner-up honors in his first season and then racking up 56 catches for 754 yards and three touchdowns last season. According to CBS Sports, Singleton Jr. is on track to be one of the 10 most impactful transfers in the SEC this season.
"Despite playing in a run-heavy scheme with the Yellow Jackets, Singleton twice surpassed 700 yards receiving at Georgia Tech and was responsible for 10 touchdowns as a featured target. He'll take some of the pressure off star wideout Cam Coleman this season and is one of a couple transfer targets Hugh Freeze made a priority. Singleton's ability to separate in coverage is his biggest strength."
But Singleton isn't the only transfer wide receiver turning heads on the Plains in the offseason. Former Wake Forest pass catcher Horatio Fields will join the position group in addition to freshman Sam Turner, and the trio will join all returning members of the "Freeze Four"— Cam Coleman, Bryce Cain, Malcolm Simmons and Perry Thompson.
With a new quarterback leading the offense and a star-studded wide receiver room, the stage is set for Auburn football to begin turning things around and picking up more wins than losses for the first time in quite a few years.
