What? Seriously, who saw this coming? After a brilliant season with the Auburn Tigers, it seemed like standout Chad Baker-Mazara was either going to enter the NBA Draft or return to the SEC powerhouse for one final season.
Instead, Baker-Mazara has shocked us all with his latest announcement. On Thursday morning, the veteran guard revealed that he's indeed looking at returning for his final college basketball season, but he'll be doing so at a different program. Yup, CBM is headed for the transfer portal.
First I wanna thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to do what I love but I wanna thank my teammates, coaching staff and the Auburn Family for the incredible support for this past two years! With this been said I would be entering the transfer portal. Gracias Auburn!ππ«ΆπΎ pic.twitter.com/EpN3rItTdd

Auburn star Chad Baker-Mazara has shockingly entered the transfer portal
It's going to take a little while to process this. Baker-Mazara spent the past two seasons with the Tigers after previously suiting up for Duquesne and San Diego State. In his first year with Auburn, CBM posted 10 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
In 2024-25, the 6-7 playmaker averaged 12.3 points and three rebounds per outing. He was known for making plays on both ends of the floor for head man Bruce Pearl. It was a year to remember for Pearl and Co., with Auburn capturing the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers reached the Final Four, with Johni Broome and Baker-Mazara leading the way. Unfortunately, a loss to Florida with a trip to the title game was posted. The Gators of course went on to win the natty.
Broome is now off to the NBA, but the hope was that Baker-Mazara would return to Auburn in 2025-26 to help out Pearl and Co. try and get back to the Final Four. However, he's now looking for a new place to call home to close out his college career. Several teams will surely waste no time in trying to sign Baker-Mazara now that he's available. Where will he end up? We should find out soon.
