Tonight at 6:00 p.m., 4-star wide receiver Jase Mathews will announce his commitment decision, and the Auburn football program is hoping to be the one he chooses.
From Leakesville, Mississippi, Mathews is ranked as the No. 117 overall prospect and the No. 13 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2026 and is the No. 6 recruit out of his home state, according to his recruiting profile on 247 Sports. In the On3 rankings, however, Mathews is the No. 2 wide receiver in the country.
Tonight, Mathews will decide between his four finalists, including Auburn, Texas A&M, LSU and Ole Miss. He took official visits to all four schools over the summer, and was on the Plains for the weekend of June 6. According to Auburn Sports, Mathews has formed strong relationships with the coaching staff at Auburn, especially wide receivers coach Marcus Davis.
“He’s my guy,” Mathews said in June. “Me and Coach Davis stay in touch. We talk at least twice a week. He’s a young coach and we have built a good connection. It just gets stronger day by day.
“He showed me things I can do to get better. He also gave me some life tips outside of football and is telling me I’m a priority.”
Another factor working in Auburn football's favor is Mathew's relationship with current freshman quarterback Deuce Knight. Both players are from Mississippi and are close friends.
Should Mathews pick the Tigers, he will be the first wide receiver commit in Auburn's class of 2026, which currently holds 11 commits and is ranked No. 70 in the country.
