Auburn was wrongfully snubbed from the AP Top 25 poll for Week 8, despite upsetting Georgia 27-24 in Athens as a three-score underdog.
In a just world, the 4-2 Tigers would be in the top 25, which was unnecessarily dominated by the Big 12 and leaned in favor of certain two-loss SEC teams over Auburn.
Here's what the top 25 poll should look like after a historic weekend of upsets and top-10 shakeups in Week 7:
No. 1: Ohio State
Ending Indiana's 22-game winning streak in Bloomington should've done more for Ohio State's resume.
No. 2: BYU
BYU lucked out with a non-PI call on the final play of the game with Notre Dame having the ball near the Cougars' goal line. Still, BYU got the job done.
No. 3: Miami
Miami doesn't deserve the top seed after being taken to overtime by Florida State. Full stop.
No. 4: Notre Dame
The AP voters got this one right actually.
No. 5: Indiana
Indiana fell unnecessarily far for losing to the preseason No. 1 and on one of the last plays of the game.
No. 6: Ole Miss
Ole Miss has a less painful loss than the Dawgs.
No. 7: Georgia
Losing to AU didn't knock UGA down as far as it should have.
No. 8: UCLA
Poll voters may not believe that UCLA should be this high yet, but under Bob Chesney, they absolutely are worthy. The Bruins' wins are better than Texas Tech's.
No. 9: Texas Tech
The Red Raiders' win over Houston does keep looking better, to be fair. Texas Tech is probably still overrated in these polls, but you can't knock being undefeated.
No. 10: Tennessee
Beating Alabama should've propelled Tennessee into the top 10.
No. 11: Kentucky
Kentucky is probably still underrated. Will Stein has transformed the Wildcats.
No. 12: Utah
The Arkansas win is looking better for Utah over time. This Saturday, the Utes could do themselves a major favor against the Coogs at home in front of a national audience.
No. 13: Iowa
Losing to the Buckeyes shouldn't be seen as that bad, even if it was a blowout at home. Iowa lost big, but the Hawkeyes should be ranked higher.
No. 14: Houston
Another one the AP voters got right.
No. 15: USC
USC still lacks a truly impressive win. Still, the Trojans have gotten the job done, except for a sloppy effort against Oregon.
No. 16: Wake Forest
Wake Forest is one of the nicest surprises of the season in the early going. The Demon Deacons have only lost to the Hurricanes and own a win over Louisville.
No. 17: Texas
Upsetting Ohio State is the best win of any team this season. Texas also owns a big win over Tennessee. The Longhorns' losses are head-scratchers, though.
No. 18: LSU
Ole Miss and Kentucky are extremely forgivable losses for LSU. Lane Kiffin's presence just amplifies the disppointment because of his price-tag and NIL demands.
No. 19: Alabama
If you want to nitpick the Crimson Tide's schedule, you'll notice that even in the big wins, the defense let up more points than Nick Saban would ever be okay with on a consistent basis.
No. 20: Florida
The AP voters had the Gators correctly slotted.
No. 21: Auburn
Auburn, like the four SEC teams above it, has two losses. The Tigers have arguably the second-best win of the season of any team, though. Auburn should be ranked.
No. 22: Northwestern
Northwestern deserves more credit for pushing the defending champions in the Wildcats' only loss.
No. 23: James Madison
Undefeated and unranked? That doesn't sit right, even if James Madison is in the Sun Belt.
No. 24: Missouri
The home win over Florida does a lot of heavy lifting for Missouri's resume.
No. 25: SMU
SMU is an early contender in the ACC and is well-coached by Rhett Lashlee.
