The Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Tech Red Raiders were mentioned in the Cam Coleman conversation on Saturday. ESPN's Max Olson talked about both like there was a chance to land the No. 1 receiver and No. 2 overall player in the transfer portal.
Olson spoke of Texas Tech in the context of adding Coleman, like an infinity stone, to their No. 4 transfer class, saying, "McGuire and Blanchard are taking more big swings in this portal window, with official visits from No. 1 transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman (Auburn) and No. 1 safety Koi Perich (Minnesota), and Texas Tech has every intention of finishing with the top portal class in the country yet again." When the Red Raiders are motivated, in the rev-share era, they get their guys.
Meanwhile, on TAMU, Olson said Coleman would be one of the biggest victories of the Mike Elko era.
"If the Aggies win out for Cam Coleman, it would be one of the biggest recruiting victories of the Elko era and would raise expectations for a program that's determined to finally win an SEC title and make a deep CFP run in 2026," Olson said.
Olson labeled Coleman as someone with "unparalleled upside."
"This ranking is off unparalleled upside. Coleman is one of the most talented receivers in the country with one of the best highlight reels, and he averaged 14 yards per catch over his two seasons at Auburn. He drops some passes and he can be more consistent in this area, but he's a big target with acrobatic body control and the ability to come down with contested circus catches. He has the second gear to run by corners, and he tracks the deep ball well. He can make defenders miss and his speed makes him a threat after the catch," Olson said.
Cam Coleman trending towards a Texas school
While there are worries about Coleman flipping to the Alabama Crimson Tide, they might be unfounded. Coleman wore Auburn gear on his visit in Tuscaloosa. That would be innocuous if it was nearly any other team. Coleman is from Phenix City. He knows the repercussions of committing to the Crimson Tide after two years on the Plains.
A major payday from the Lone Star State, be it from Texas Tech, Texas A&M, or the Texas Longhorns, feels like it'll reel Coleman.
We'll see who wins the wideout lottery soon enough.
