The Auburn Tigers are in desperate need of a successful season, and after hoping that head coach Hugh Freeze would be fired, instead, he is around for another season. The one thing Freeze doesn't need to do is set super high expectations for the team, and of course, he goes and does just that.
In a press conference, Freeze made a point to admit how amazing the roster is this season, therefore setting high expectations. So, if this team doesn't win, even with a great roster, all fingers are going to point to him as to why this team isn't winning.
"I've been around enough to know when you have enough talent to win games, and we do," Freeze said. "We're not going to run from that, we're expecting it, and now we've got to go and prove that."

In two seasons at Auburn so far, Freeze went 6-7 in 2023 and 5-7 in 2024. In 2023, even though the Tigers made it to a bowl game, they lost to the Maryland Terrapins. Either way, Auburn finished below .500 in both seasons, and it seems Freeze could be on a short rope this season.
With Freeze being on the hot set, talking about how great his team is may not be the best thing to do. Of course, every coach wants to rave about their team, but it is just setting Freeze up for failure if the Tigers don't perform the way they are known to for the third year in a row. There is no one else to point the finger at other than Freeze.
Auburn was not ranked in the Preseason AP Top 25 and is projected to finish in the bottom half of the SEC this season. Freeze needs to figure out how to win with this team, or his time with the team could be over pretty quickly this season. Auburn is set to take on Baylor this week on Friday, August 29, at 7:00 p.m. EST.
