Auburn football flips Florida defensive line commit Amaris Williams
The Auburn football program is making big moves on early national signing day
By lunchtime today, the Auburn football program has signed 16 of their 20 commits in the recruiting class of 2024. The Tigers have signed arguably their best wide receiver class ever, and have secured a quarterback in Walker White.
The Tigers were hoping to flip the #1 safety in the recruiting class of 2024, 5-star KJ Bolden. Auburn football has been a major player in Bolden's recruitment for some time now despite the fact that he was committed to Florida State, and made a big push as it came down to the wire.
Bolden shut down his recruitment to the news media earlier this week, insisting he would sign with the Seminoles, but flipped at noon during his signing ceremony and chose the Georgia Bulldogs.
Then, Auburn football's big moment came at 12:40 when 4-star defensive lineman Amaris Williams, who had been committed to Florida since the summer, pulled an orange Auburn hat out of his backpack and flipped his commitment. Williams is ranked as the #1 recruit in the state of North Carolina and the #8 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2024.
From his first visit to the Plains in December, Williams knew he could see himself playing for the Tigers, according to Auburn Undercover, and his relationships with the coaching staff helped form his decision:
"The chance to play early and the people I get to be around every day," Williams said of his choice. "Especially the coaches I get to be coached by. Coach JG (Jeremy Garrett), Coach Trell (Vontrell King-Williams) and Coach Freeze."
Williams is one of two Florida Gators commits the Tigers are looking to flip in the Early Signing Period, which lasts from December 20 to December 22. The other is 5-star defensive lineman LJ McCray, who was expected to sign this morning at 9:00 a.m. but put off his commitment to a later time.
