Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze had some interesting comments about his team's abilities following their embarrassing loss to Arkansas

It was another devastating weekend on the Plains for the Auburn football team. The Tigers dropped the SEC opener to Arkansas in an embarrassing game full of indecision, turnovers, and silly mistakes. Redshirt freshman Hank Brown got the starting nod at QB after his performance in the New Mexico game the previous weekend, but threw three interceptions in the first half against the Razorbacks.

It was enough for Freeze to pull the young QB in favor of former starter Payton Thorne, who finished out the game but wasn't able to help the Tigers fight back.

It's hard for fans to find a silver lining in a game like that against an SEC opponent, and it just seem to be getting more and more clear that Freeze's biggest mistake of his Auburn football tenure so far is not getting a quarterback out of the transfer portal.

However, during his appearance on Tiger Talk earlier this week, Freeze made comments about the state of his team that were simply laughable after their performance so far this season.

"I mean no offense whatsoever to Arkansas ... I love [coach] Sam Pittman, I hope he wins the rest of his games, but I'm telling you, the hard truth is if we play them nine more times, we beat them nine times," Freeze said, per Auburn Undercover. "That's what's hard to take, and it's hard for our fans, I'm sure, and it's certainly hard for us."

Well, that's great, Coach, but Auburn isn't playing Arkansas nine more times. We played them once and got the socks beat off us. Naturally, the comments sparked backlash on social media, including an impressive troll job by the Arkansas Football social team.

At the end of the day, whether or not Auburn football is a good team is on Hugh Freeze and the coaching staff. From player evaluations to workout plans to diet to coaching to practice to game plans, everything is on the coach. Sure, players need to be more disciplined and make proper plays and the coach isn't directly responsible for a fumble or a dropped pass, but it all goes back to how they are coached and prepared in the days leading up to the games.

Take accountability for the poor decisions that have been made in preparing this football team for the 2024 season.

The Tigers will return to action this Saturday against Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
