Despite the rough start to his second season on the Plains, head coach Hugh Freeze believes Auburn football is still headed in the right direction

So far, the 2024 season has not played out in the way anyone hoped or expected, certainly not Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze. After a tough first season, which was to be expected, Freeze all but cleaned house with his coaching staff and brought in the #8 recruiting class.

While Tiger fans weren't expecting to see Auburn make a run for the playoffs this year, many believed the team would be at least somewhat improved from last season. Unfortunately, instead, it seems as though the Tigers might be set up to have their fourth straight losing season.

Payton Thorne and Hank Brown have done their best and have conducted themselves as Auburn men throughout the adversity they have faced, but it's becoming more and more clear that Freeze shot himself and Auburn football in the foot by not getting a quarterback out of the transfer portal. How different would this team look with more talent at QB1?

Despite the repeated L's on the scoreboard, there are still flashes of hope and potential from the Auburn football players, especially the young players learning the ropes on defense and the Freeze Four making plays on offense. For Freeze, there is plenty of indication that the light at the end of the tunnel is still approaching.

“My ask is to stick with us through the growing pains and support our guys, and efforts in our recruiting, because the results are going to come,” Freeze said, per Auburn Live.

“We’re not that far off and I hope the ’25 recruiting class sees that and knows they have a chance to come in and immediately impact this program, just like the ’24 class. Building takes time. I think you are all aware of what we inherited.”

The Tigers return to action this Saturday in Athens when they take on the Georgia Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. central time.
