Auburn Tigers News: Baseball schedule update, Hugh Freeze on upcoming tests for WRs
In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the baseball team will take part in the College Baseball Series and Hugh Freeze talks about the upcoming tests for the young wide receivers
In week three of the 2025 regular season, Auburn baseball will travel to Arlington, Texas, to take part in the College Baseball Series benefiting Shriners Children's.
The three-day event kicks off on February 28 from Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. The Tigers will open up the series with a matchup against Ohio State at 3:00 p.m. on the 28th, and the next day will face Oregon State at 6:00 p.m. Auburn finishes the weekend against Baylor at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2.
"It's a really big deal for the young guys," said assistant Gabe Gross, per Auburn Undercover. "Those older guys have been in environments and SEC stadiums. Those aren't big league stadiums, but still it can get wild and crazy. It opens the eyes of the young guys and maybe settles them down a little bit when they do walk in the SEC stadium. That's the other side of the coin, you're not going in there and playing teams you should really beat. You're going in playing really good competition. Our world is 56 games, but the 30 in our conference usually defines who you are. Anything that gets you prepared for that is a good thing."
Hugh Freeze on upcoming tests for the young wide receivers
Auburn football brought in arguably the best wide receiver class in the nation with the 2024 recruiting class, and they put on a show in the Tigers' season opener against Alabama A&M. Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, and Malcolm Simmons all scored touchdowns on Saturday, but head coach Hugh Freeze is mindful of the challenges ahead after taking care of business against an FCS opponent.
“They're really confident right now, I'm sure. After Saturday, we'll see,” said Hugh Freeze, per Auburn Rivals. “We don't run from that. Here's your chance -- our chance, not just them, but us, too, as coaches.
“Here's our chance to prove we can be a fundamentally efficient scoring machine against a team I think plays really efficient defensive football. It'll be a really good test for us.”
Auburn football returns to action at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday when they take on the Cal Golden Bears in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
