In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the Auburn basketball program is gearing up for a tough non-conference schedule while Auburn football lands in 5-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham's top six
Auburn basketball head coach Bruce Pearl has not been one to shy away from scheduling tough games for his team, but the 2024-2025 season may bring the most formidable slate yet. Outside of the usual gauntlet of SEC play, Pearl is setting up some tough competition for the Tigers.
Auburn will participate in the Maui Invitational this November alongside Colorado, Dayton, Iowa State, Memphis, Michigan State, North Carolina, and UConn, and have scheduled Duke as its opponent in the annual SEC/ACC Challenge.
Now the Montgomery Advertiser reports that Pearl is trying to work out a big game to be played in Birmingham this December.
"I don't think we're in any position to make any kind of announcement about a game in Birmingham yet. But I can tell you, we've got potential for a big game in Birmingham in December," Pearl said Tuesday at an AMBUSH event at the Finley Center. "We're working on it. Contracts, I don't think are quite done. It'll be a game and an opponent that we could actually sell the building out."
Auburn football lands in 5-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham's top six
Meanwhile, head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff are keeping the Auburn Tigers in the mix for 5-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham. The Ackerman, Mississippi, native is ranked as the #2 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2025 and is the #1 prospect out of his home state.
Cunningham's top six programs include Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn football. He has taken multiple visits to each school, but just finished his official visit to Alabama, after which he named the Tide the leaders in his recruitment.
Though it will be an uphill battle for the Tigers to keep Cunningham out of his home state and away from the Tide, it counts for something that Auburn football is a contender for the talented wide receiver.
