In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, head coach Hugh Freeze shares his thoughts on Hank Brown's debut at QB1, and an Alabama wide receiver commit sets a visit to the Plains
It was a big weekend for redshirt freshman quarterback Hank Brown, who got the nod for the starting job over returning starter Payton Thorne near the end of last week. Brown has very little in-game experience but has impressed every time he hits the field and won the backup job during fall camp.
It was a gamble that paid off for the Tigers as Hank Brown seemed to breathe new life into the Auburn football offense. For head coach Hugh Freeze it was about as good of a start as you could ask for from a young quarterback.
"I thought it was a solid night and decision-making was good," Freeze said, per The Montgomery Advertiser. "I decided Hank Brown was going to start after watching the film Monday. If he keeps playing well, it'll be a permanent fix. If not, maybe it will wake everyone else up.
"Hank will be the starter next week. ... The next couple weeks I think will show us exactly where we are with that. But ... let's see what he does as we step up another level of competition against SEC play."
Alabama wide receiver commit sets visit to the Plains
This weekend, the Auburn football team takes on their first SEC opponent in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Arkansas Razorbacks will be coming to town, and so will 5-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham, who is currently committed to Alabama.
Cunningham is ranked as the #1 recruit out of the state of Mississippi and the #3 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2025. He committed to Kalen DeBoer and the Tide over the summer, but Auburn football and several other teams have continued to push for a flip. His trip to the Plains will be his first since his official visit back in May, and could be a big step in getting the 5-star receiver to flip to the good guys.
