In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, head coach Hugh Freeze discusses his recruitment of Hank Brown, and this freshman DB is standing out as a rising star

Prior to his commitment to the Auburn football program, quarterback Hank Brown was committed to Liberty for six months to play for head coach Hugh Freeze. When Freeze took the job at Auburn, Brown had several options. He had an offer to play for his high school coach at UAB, he could stay at Liberty, or he could follow Freeze to the Plains.

Despite being one of the lowest-ranked signees in the Tigers' recruiting class of 2023, Brown is slated to be the starting quarterback for Auburn football to open SEC play against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

“I’ve always felt like he had this it factor to him as an individual,” Freeze said, per AL.com. “I’ve always had this kind of sneaking belief that he had something to him and now we’re getting ready to find out at what level."

Freshman DB is rising star

Brown is not the only young player stepping up to the plate this fall. According to senior linebacker Dorian Mausi, freshman safety Kaleb Harris has already made a name for himself on the Tigers' defense.

“He does not act like a freshman safety at all,” said Mausi, per Auburn Rivals. “He talks a lot, which is a must-have on defense, especially to have a lot of playing time and to have a big role, which he is going to have, as he’s earned.

“He’s understanding the defense. Sometimes when I’m on the field if I’m confused, I look to him and I trust in him that he knows what he’s doing because he’s put the time in to really understand this defense and it shows.”

Harris earned the second-best defensive grade from PFF after his performance against New Mexico last weekend with only Eugene Asante grading out better. According to Freeze, Harris is the most physical guy in the secondary.

The Tigers return to action this Saturday to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Jordan-Hare Stadium at 2:30 p.m.
