In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Auburn men's track finishes second at the NCAA championship and Auburn golfer Jackson Koivun makes PGA Tour debut

Auburn Athletics is finishing the year strong. Following the men's golf championship, the Tigers' men's track team finished second to Florida by just one point in the NCAA championships.

The Tigers' 4x100 relay team won their event, and Auburn fell just short of winning the first national championship in program history. The closest the team has ever come is third place in 2003 and 2008.

Azeem Fahmi, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Dario Matau and Makanakishe Charamba, the 4x100 relay team, earned Auburn its first relay national title in program history and true freshman Ja'Kobe Tharp won silver in the 110m hurdles.

"The guys showed up bigtime. I told them we had an opportunity and on the first day they created an opportunity for us to win," Auburn second-year head coach Leroy Burrell said, per Auburn Undercover. "We took a heck of a swing at it and fell just a little short, but I couldn't be more grateful and excited for this program and its future. We were so close in a few races and if any of those flip a place, we are celebrating a national title."

Auburn golfer Jackson Koivun makes PGA Tour debut

After leading the Auburn men's golf team to an NCAA national championship last month, freshman Jackson Koivun made his debut appearance on the PGA Tour and became the first amateur since 2009 to make the cut for the Memorial Tournament.

According to AL.com, the freshman standout is on his way to earning a PGA Tour card through the Tour's accelerated program and has already picked up 15 of the needed 20 points. It's possible Koivun could earn his card by the end of his sophomore year.
