In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Paul Finebaum slams head coach Hugh Freeze and Keionte Scott takes accountability for his poor performance against Cal

It's year two for Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze, and though only two games have been played things are already not going according to plan. The Tigers fell flat on their face against Cal due to what seemed to be the same problems they struggled with last season, especially when it comes to quarterback Payton Thorne.

It was the third upset loss in the Tigers last five games, including those against Maryland, New Mexico State, and Alabama. For Paul Finebaum, things on the Plains are not adding up.

"I've been around Hugh Freeze once or twice in interviews; he doesn't look like he wants to be there," Finebaum said Wednesday, per Auburn Undercover. "That sounds like a bold statement, but something is going on with him. At least act like you want the job. Show some emotion. Brian Kelly, for all the theatrics of punching the table, at least it looked like he cared. There are times when I don't really know what Hugh Freeze is up to."

While Payton Thorne was the standout disappointment in Saturday's game, there was a player on the opposite side of the ball who lacked his usual on-field presence. Veteran cornerback Keionte Scott is one of the most important returners for the Tigers' defense, but struggled to create plays agains Cal last Saturday.

The defense as a whole played poorly in the first half, but when they came out swinging in the third quarter after making necessary adjustments Scott was barely in the rotation.

"I feel like my performance in general just wasn't up to my standard — and also for what this team needs out of me," Scott said Tuesday, per Auburn Undercover. "I feel like in general just have to be better on that side of the field, and embracing my role and what I need to bring to this defense. I have to step it up there."

Scott and Auburn football return to action this Saturday when they take on New Mexico in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
