Auburn Tigers News: Softball hires co-head coaches, 4-star safety sets commitment date
In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Auburn has hired co-head coaches to lead the softball program and a 4-star safety sets his commitment date
Earlier this year, Auburn softball head coach Mickey Dean announced he would be stepping down at the end of the season after seven years on the Plains. Wednesday the university announced that husband and wife duo Chris and Kate Malveux would be the next leaders of the softball program.
The pair spent the past three seasons at Tennessee as assistants, with Chris focusing on offense and Kate working with catchers and base runners, and in the 2023 season the Lady Vols averaged 6.87 runs per game, the most in the SEC.
“In meeting with Chris and Kate, it was obvious that their synergy was an indomitable force,” Auburn athletics director John Cohen said, per AL.com. “Their contributions to Tennessee’s success over the past three seasons are undeniable. We’re so excited to welcome Chris, Kate and their family to Auburn.”
4-star safety sets his commitment date
One of the Auburn football program's most wanted prospects has officially set his commitment date. 4-star safety Anquon Fegans of Thompson High School will choose between his top four programs on July 27. The Tigers are in the mix alongside Georgia, Clemson, and LSU.
Ranked as the #2 recruit out of the state of Alabama and the #4 overall safety in the recruiting class of 2025, Fegans will officially visit Washington, Georgia, Clemson, and Miami in June and then arrive on the Plains for Big Cat Weekend on July 27.
Fegans has a strong bond with Charles Kelly, and the safety places high value on Kelly's track record of sending players to the NFL.
"It is because if you go back and look at his track record, he's had a lot of guys," Fegans said of Kelly's coaching background, per Auburn Undercover. "A lot of them. That's a big deal."
