After a weekend visit on the Plains, a 3-star Birmingham cornerback is ready to return

The Auburn football hosted another group of recruits over the weekend, including prospects who are already committed to the Tigers and some who are still trying to make a final decision. One visitor, 3-star cornerback Tim Merritt, made the trip from Birmingham with a Parker High School teammate who is already committed to Auburn football in the class of 2025: defensive tackle Jourdin Crawford.

Ranked as the #40 cornerback in the recruiting class of 2025 and the #18 prospect out of the state of Alabama, Merritt has over 20 offers from schools around the country. He made trips to Tennessee and Clemson during the season, and the CB was originally supposed to visit the Florida Gators this weekend, but enjoyed his time on the Plains instead.

Though Merritt is listed as a cornerback, he doesn't want to corner himself into one position and he and the coaching staff believe that he can play various roles in Auburn football's secondary. Getting to sit down with head coach Hugh Freeze and touring the faciliities were highlights for the Birmingham native, but chopping it up with his would-be position coach, Wesley McGriff, is the reason Merritt is itching to return to the Plains, per Auburn Rivals:

"Gonna get back up here and talk ball with Crime Dawg," Merritt said. "He knows the game and that’s how I want to be. Around somebody who understands and knows the game like me."

Merritt hopes to put all his focus on his senior season, and therefore would like to make a final decision about where he will begin his college career at the end of the summer. Before then, we can expect to see the talented, in-state athlete back on the Plains for another visit.
