BREAKING: Former Auburn football staffer Trovon Reed hired as UCF cornerbacks coach
Former Auburn football Director of Football Recruiting Relations Trovon Reed will join former Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn on UCF's staff
In a move that results in a big loss for the Auburn football coaching staff, Trovon Reed will be leaving the Plains. The former Auburn football player will be leaving his current position — Director of Football Recruiting Relations — to take a promotion at UCF. He will join former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn's staff as the cornerbacks coach.
Reed, who played football on the Plains from 2010 to 2014, was recruited and coached by Gus Malzahn. Following his Auburn career, he played on several NFL practice squads and XFL teams before returning to the Plains for an off-field role. He began as player relations coordinator in 2021 and was promoted to Director of Football Recruiting Relations in 2022. This will be Reed's first on-field role as an assistant coach.
The move was announced by Reed's former head coach on his personal X, formerly known as Twitter, account.
A native of Louisiana, Reed spent five years on the Plains and was part of the team that played against Florida State in the final BCS National Championship. He began his career as a wide receiver before transitioning to cornerback his senior year. He racked up 39 receptions for 384 yards and one touchdown on the offense in addition to 13 tackles, three interceptions, and one forced fumble on the defensive side of the ball.
Reed has played a tremendous role in recruiting for the Tigers over the past few years, bridging the gaps between former head coach Bryan Harsin and current head coach Hugh Freeze. It is likely that recent hire Will Redmond, who is expected to be the general manager of Auburn football, will pick up the slack left by the departure of Reed.
