FSU wanted to leave the ACC and tried to sue their way out of the conference during the offseason. Perhaps the focus wasn't where it should've been in Tallahassee since the Noles flew all the way to Dublin, Ireland just to lose to unranked GA Tech.

Some of college football's most notable voices had to troll the Noles for giving up 6.5 yards per play and 336 total and getting a good, but not great, showing from DJ Uiagalelei (19/27 passing, 193 yards) under center -- and ultimately losing despite being a two-score favorite.

"All I'm saying is that this probably isn't how you want to start your season after spending the entire offseason bragging about how you're too good for your conference," CBS Sports' Shehan Jeyarajah wrote right after Yellow Jackets K Aidan Birr's 44-yard field goal attempt as time expired put GA Tech up 24-21 for good.

Brett McMurphy had fun with the fact that GA Tech followed its in-state rival Georgia in beating the Noles. Of course, the Dawgs won 63-3, but the Peach State's FBS schools do have a massive point differential at the Noles.

"Florida State has lost its last 2 games to teams from Georgia by combined margin of 87-24," McMurphy wrote.

FSU loses at most inopportune time with more conference realignment expected

This season has been hailed the most transformative and ground-breaking season college football has ever seen. There was mass conference realignment in the offseason and figures to be more once the ACC settles with FSU and Clemson.

The Noles just took the toughest loss at the most inopportune time. While it doesn't define their season, and the 12-team College Football Playoff gives them more leeway than past years, it's hard to see FSU as the crown jewel of conference realignment.

Clemson has Georgia on the schedule next week. It's possible the two schools dying to leave the ACC are going to be winless by the end of the season's first week.
