On Monday, the Auburn baseball team was selected as the No. 4 national seed in the NCAA baseball tournament. For the third time in the last four seasons, the Tigers will host a regional at Plainsman Park, and they will have the opportunity to host a super regional if they keep winning.
With the fourth-most quad 1 wins in the nation and the No. 1 strength of schedule, it's no surprise the Tigers were seeded so highly despite finishing sixth in SEC play. Central Connecticut, NC State, and Stetson are the teams assigned to the Auburn regional.
NC State and Stetson will kick things off in game one at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, and the Tigers will take on Central Connecticut at 6:00 p.m. Here is what the Tigers had to say ahead of the tournament.
Samuel Dutton on the opportunity to play for a championship, per Auburn Rivals:
“It’s so exciting. This is everything, our goals and what we’ve worked for. Just the goals of this team and all we have to do is go out and play Auburn’s brand of baseball, and I think we’ll like the results.”
Carson Myers on the importance of taking it one game at a time, per Auburn Undercover:
"It's huge. If you get caught looking ahead that's when teams can bite you in the butt. If we stay focused and level-headed then we'll have the success we're looking for."
Ike Irish on playing the regional in newly renovated Plainsman Park, per Auburn Rivals:
“I’m pumped. We’ve got way more seats than we did two years ago. I thought that was packed. It’s going to be cool to see people fill it up.”
Eric Guevara on making the postseason after missing out last year, per Auburn Undercover:
"Once the season is over, it's over and you can't do anything about it. All of the guys that came back, we all had a chip on our shoulder saying 'it has to be different.' We put everything we had into making it different. We're all really happy that it's happened this way. We're all excited for Friday."
