Each year in the offseason, Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze prepares a theme and some lessons he will use with his team during fall camp. Ahead of this year's practices, Freeze has put a lot of emphasis on the word "expectant."
For Freeze, the term expectant refers to the attitude of the players heading into the season. After two years of work, the Tigers are finally a team that has enough talent to be truly competitive with the other top teams in college football. Being expectant is more or less about knowing that Auburn football has put in the work and they expect to do well in 2025.
"We are expectant — we're expecting to be a really good football team that competes in every single game and has a chance to win every single game," Freeze said. "And hopefully we're better in those critical moments, and we flip some of those close losses into wins. We're expecting that."
Auburn Undercover's Nathan King heard from several Auburn football players about what "expectant" means to them, and here are a few quotes from those players.
Cornerback Kayin Lee: "Expectant to me means — everything we worked for over the summer, everything we did over the spring and the winter, it's all about to pay off right now. We're expecting it to pay off. We're here to have a great season."
Edge rusher Keyron Crawford: "We're expectant of great things ahead. We have 10 times the players and 10 times the talent. … We have to let everyone know. They need to expect the same things we do."
The Tigers are in the midst of fall camp and return to action on August 29 against the Baylor Bears in Waco, Texas.
