Auburn football transfers on why they chose the Tigers
It's been a busy week for the Auburn football program in the transfer portal. Since the window opened on December 9, the Tigers have added eight transfers, several of whom will fill major gaps on the roster.
Headlining the group so far is the pair of quarterbacks, Jackson Arnold from Oklahoma and Ashton Daniels from Stanford. With three Auburn QBs hitting the portal and Payton Thorne running out of eligibility the quarterback room is set to look completely different heading into 2025.
Also of note are the offensive line transfers, Xavier Chaplin from Virginia Tech and Mason Murphy from USC. The Tigers will be looking to replace multiple starters in the trenches and are likely not finished with OL in the portal.
Below are quotes of note from transfers who explained why they chose to commit to Auburn football.
Former Georgia Tech safety Taye Seymore, per Auburn Live:
“I feel like I can fit in well and I can fly around and be the athlete I feel like I am. How close everybody is. I found everybody on the staff has been together for four or five years, I feel like that plays a big role in this. You want to be a part of a staff that’s been together for a while and is all connected as one.”
Former Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels, per Auburn Rivals:
“This place is special, man. What Coach Freeze and this staff are doing with this program is so special. The culture that they’re implementing from the top down, I think, is one of the biggest reasons I chose to come here. They care and I can tell they are really close to winning a lot of games. I hope that I can come in and be a fit for this offense and help them win games.”
Former Miami (OH) cornerback Raion Strader, per The Montgomery Advertiser:
"Just culture, family, and just the environment. You could tell this town really holds its pride in football and sports in total."
The transfer portal window will remain open until December 28.
