After their two commits, will the Tigers look for a third QB?

We are in the second week of the open transfer portal window, and so far the Auburn football program is doing a great job of adding new talent to positions of need. The Tigers have added eight transfers so far, including two offensive linemen, a running back, a cornerback, a safety, a punter, and two quarterbacks.

O-line and quarterback are two of the most important positions for the coaching staff to be looking at in the portal, but with two QBs already committed, are the Tigers done recruiting at that position?

The answer is likely no.

Since his arrival on the Plains, head coach Hugh Freeze has reiterated multiple times that his staff plans to have four scholarship quarterbacks every year. Last year, those scholarships belonged to Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner, Hank Brown, and Walker White. Heading into 2025, Thorne is out of eligibility, and the other three quarterbacks have all elected to enter the transfer portal.

Freshman signee Deuce Knight will take one of the scholarships, and so far out of the portal the Tigers have brought in former Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold and former Stanford QB Ashton Daniels. After two seasons with the Sooners, Arnold has two years of eligibility remaining and is widely expected to be crowned QB1 for the 2025 season after starting for Oklahoma.

Daniels spent three seasons at Stanford and will arrive on the Plains with one year of eligibility left. According to Auburn Live, Daniels is looking forward to competing with Arnold but is also looking forward to playing a mentor role with Deuce Knight.

With Arnold, Daniels, and Knight all on board with Auburn football, there is still one open scholarship for another quarterback. As Arnold seemed to be the priority in this window, it's possible that the second window in April would be the most opportune time to recruit a fourth quarterback for the Plains.
