As the summer heats up, so do the recruiting battles, and the Auburn football program is going up against another SEC program for a top wide receiver in the 2026 class.
4-star Marquez Daniel was on the Plains over the weekend for his official visit with the Tigers after several unofficial trips taken earlier this year. From just down the road in Tuskegee, Daniel is ranked as the No. 164 overall recruit and the No. 24 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2026. He is the No. 9 prospect out of the state of Alabama.
Daniel got to spend plenty of time on campus getting an in-depth look at Auburn's facilities and speaking with the Tigers' coaching staff, including wide receivers coach Marcus Davis, who is Daniel's primary recruiter.
"It was a great weekend," Daniel said, per Auburn Rivals. "I'm glad to see everything. Spending a whole day on campus for real. I had a great time. I talked it over with Coach (Marcus) Davis and Coach [Maurice Harris]. I had a great time."
The team providing the biggest competition for the Tigers in landing the commitment of Marquez Daniel is SEC foe Florida. As of now, Florida is the only other program with which the wide receiver has set up an official visit, and he will be in Gainesville this upcoming weekend.
For Head Coach Hugh Freeze and his staff, Daniel is an important target as an in-state kid, and the Tigers would definitely like to keep the WR playing close to home. For now, Daniel says that his relationship with the coaching staff and Auburn football's passing game are keeping him interested in the Tigers.
