Some really stupid things were said on Thursday by the junior United States senator from Texas, Republican Ted Cruz. His fear-mongering suggested that the SEC's two schools in the Lone Star State will be the only schools in Texas that will survive unless the federal government intervenes. Disregard that, for your own sanity's sake.
On the recruiting trail, several commitments took place, including from one of the Texas schools that'd supposedly survive the sport's alleged rapture unless Cruz and the rest of his bandits in D.C. don't swoop in and save the day.
Here were the latest headlines from the SEC:
Ted Cruz: Texas and A&M would be only Lone Star survivors without bill
In the most delusional, non-ball-knowing statement a government official released since Greg Abbott called the NBA Finals the "championship playoffs" on X, Cruz claimed that if the Protect College Sports Act isn't passed, you'd see schools like Texas Tech University, despite having a $2 billion endowment, fail to "survive," along with other billion-dollar institutions in a state that has a higher GDP than many countries.
“I love Texas and A&M, but they are going to thrive and win national championships. If we don’t act, I’m not sure any other Texas program survives. I look around Texas and imagine a world without TCU, SMU or Baylor or Texas Tech or Houston or Rice," Cruz said.
Mind you, the SMU Mustangs aren't even taking money from a media rights deal for their first seven years in the ACC. They seem to be doing just fine. This statement is so idiotic that it doesn't deserve much analysis, other than that you should question every single thing that comes out of this man's mouth after this. Credibility has to be lost in the court of public opinion when you fear-monger so hard that you try to say that the Texas Tech Red Raiders may go broke without your help.

Texas A&M lands 5-star LB over Notre Dame and LSU
In actual relevant news that won't lower your IQ for having consumed, the Texas A&M Aggies landed 5-star Tampa Jesuit linebacker Kaden Henderson over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and red-hot LSU Tigers.
Henderson's reasoning for committing to the Aggies, which he shared during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, should fire up everyone about what's happening in College Station in the Mike Elko regime.
"It starts with Elko. I think he’s a great coach, he’s building something special in College Station, a dynasty I definitely want to be a part of… I think coach T-Will, the linebacker coach, is going to pour into me, really just help me flourish and get to the ultimate goal, the NFL, and be a first-round pick," Henderson said.
TAMU extended their lead in the 2027 team recruiting rankings with another blue-chip win.

Florida lands 3-star LB over Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee
In a nice recruiting win within the "It Just Means More" conference, the Florida Gators edged out the Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Tennessee Volunteers for 3-star Providence Day School (NC) linebacker Robert Geathers III.
Geathers' father, Robert Geathers Jr., was a 10-year veteran on the Cincinnati Bengals, while his grandfather, Robert Geathers Sr., and great-uncle, Jumpy Geathers, also played in the National Football League.
