The Texas Longhorns and South Carolina Gamecocks scored massive (literally and figuratively) offensive line commits around Independence Day. Interestingly enough, both schools landed in-state products.
While On3's Hayes Fawcett listed them as interior offensive linemen, both are projected to be tackles at the next level if everything breaks right. Of any position group in football, though, there is a level of continuity between all the positions. Tackles are about isolating edge-rushers, and IOLs are meant to block in group assignments, but being able to hold your ground and push defenders forward is a skill all five OL positions need to master.
When you're not worried about moving to a new state and can focus on football 100%, perhaps it becomes easier.
Here were your major recent headlines around the SEC on the gridiron:
Texas lands 5-star Gilmer OL over Oregon, SMU, and LSU
5-star Gilmer OL Ismael Camara chose the Longhorns over the Oregon Ducks, SMU Mustangs, and LSU Tigers in a decision that made a lot of sense when you hear it loud. Per Camara, "I’m from Gilmer, TX it’s in my blood. HOOK’EM."
Credit Texas OL coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood for selling Camara on staying home. It's not a slam dunk to get a player to stick to his favorite team growing up. Especially with big-spenders like the Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Tech Red Raiders looming with endless pockets.
The Oklahoma Sooners just paid 4-star 2028 Bergen Catholic (NJ) quarterback Trey Tagliaferri enough to give up his dream of representing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Michigan Wolverines stole 4-star Princeton (OH) CB Monsanna Torbert from the Ohio State Buckeyes after he decommitted from the Indiana Hoosiers. Nothing is certain in this business.
What is certain, with the "for now" caveat, of course, as every recruiting decision in 2026 must have, is that Camara didn't fall for any wanderlust. Camara is the third 5-star recruit in the Longhorns' 2027 class.
Oklahoma stuns Notre Dame for 4-star QB, 5-star WR chooses Oregon over LSU and Vols
South Carolina lands 4-star Irmo OT over UGA, Colorado, and Clemson
The Gamecocks kept 4-star Irmo OT Nate Carson in the Palmetto State, fending off Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs, Coach Prime's Colorado Buffaloes, and Dabo Swinney's Clemson Tigers in the process.
Carson explained the natural advantages USC had with his recruitment, essentially confirming that he wasn't ever truly considering anyone but the Gamecocks.
“I already knew I was going to go to South Carolina. South Carolina just showed a different love and it was amazing. ... (It was) the culture. I’m right down the street. I’m there all the time and I feel welcomed," Carson said.
While it might not sound like there was much work to do for OL coach Randy Clements and Director of Recruiting Sam Serbay, Carson needed to be shown money and respect. Carson didn't have the biggest spenders coming after him, he did have several schools with a championship pedigree after him.
Shane Beamer's coaching staff clearly sold him on enough hope to commit.
