Apparently, Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer is happy in Tuscaloosa and isn't planning on leaving after the team's run in the College Football Playoff. That's what CBS Sports' Rick Neuhiesel shared, anyway.
“My sources say that Kalen DeBoer is happy in Tuscaloosa and will stay there,” Neuheisel said in what feels like a very conditional statement. Will DeBoer still be happy if he and his family are living through a nightmare following a third straight loss to the Oklahoma Sooners within the past two years?
That's up for debate. It's clear DeBoer isn't accepted in Alabama. ESPN's Paul Finebaum came out and said it. Finebaum believes goodwill is gone after a blowout loss in the SEC Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs, the previous loss to OU in November, and an infamous 31-17 loss to the FSU Seminoles in Week 1 that had many believing the end was nigh for DeBoer on the Tide.
“It is very mixed on Kalen DeBoer. Now, again, we’re on the Friday after a 21-point loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship. This season was rocky. It started with a loss to Florida State, it got very good, and then Alabama lost to Oklahoma late in the season. And this, by the way, would be the third loss to Oklahoma, assuming that happens a week from tonight, in two seasons. That just is not acceptable," Finebaum said on ESPN's Get Up.
Michigan is calling Kalen DeBoer's name
DeBoer needs to embrace the Michigan Wolverines' opportunity. An entire coaching cycle came and went, with all the big names signing at the end of the regular season. Then, the Michigan job opened up via nefarious circumstances, to say the least.
DeBoer cannot be happy with the change of pace from coaching the Washington Huskies in Seattle. Those fans were thrilled with making the 2023/2024 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Alabama fans are not thrilled with losing three games a season, including the SEC title game, if they even make it.
Ann Arbor will be happy with DeBoer's non-controversial personality after Sherrone Moore and Jim Harbaugh. DeBoer would also have Larry Ellison's spending power to buy the best talent.
DeBoer would be a better match in Maize and Blue, and no one is disputing that. Including most in Tuscaloosa.
