The Texas Longhorns are reportedly in good shape to land Auburn Tigers transfer receiver Cam Coleman over the Texas A&M Aggies, mainly due to the presence of Arch Manning in Austin, according to The Houston Chronicle's Kirk Bohls.
Per Bohls, "Texas WR Parker Livingstone is entering the transfer portal because the Horns are saying their money to land Auburn’s Cam Coleman. Texas in good position with Coleman and has an edge over A&M because of Arch Manning, but the Auburn WR is wanting big money. One source says he may ask for $4 million."
Coleman's decision is one that reportedly has many in the Longhorns' receiver room holding off on returning to Texas, per Texas Longhorns On SI's Zach Dimmitt.
"Pairing Coleman with a quarterback like Arch Manning would give NFL scouts tape to salivate over. And whether the rest of the country agrees or not, having this duo together would once again put Texas in the conversation to be a preseason Top 5 team headed into next year," Dimmitt wrote.
"The Longhorns are expected to return wide receivers Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley V and Parker Livingstone next season but there's nothing guaranteed yet on that front. It's certainly realistic to think that Coleman's portal decision could impact what Texas' other wide receivers choose to do, but only time will tell."
Texas going all in on Cam Coleman
Texas is clearly all in on Coleman, saving up its money to give Manning a headline WR1, or possibly a 1A to Wingo.
Based on how things reportedly went in Auburn, Coleman may be better off in a big city like Austin, with a talented supporting cast around him that will allow him to ease into the groove for 11 am C.T. games and grab more of the defense's attention.
Coleman would remain a big fish; he'd just be joining an ocean compared to the Plains' pond. The Phenix City, Alabama, product tried the home town angle, and it wasn't what was best for his career.
Sounds like he feels the Lone Star State, and the big oil money that comes with it, could be.
