First-year head coach Alex Golesh and his Auburn Tigers staff are cooking in the transfer portal. In the last 24 hours, the Tigers have made three major additions from the portal.
The first was former LSU defensive tackle Walter Mathis Jr. From Savannah, Georgia. Mathis was a true freshman in Baton Rouge last season and appeared in 12 games for the Tigers, recording nine total tackles. Auburn defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams recruited Mathis hard out of high school, and though Mathis ultimately signed with LSU, he will continue his career on the Plains with three years of eligibility.
The next to sign was former Ole Miss offensive lineman TJ Hedrick. From Naples, Florida, Hedrick signed with the Rebels as a member of their 2025 recruiting class but did not appear in any contests as a true freshman and redshirted. He will arrive at Auburn with four years of eligibility.
The third signee to hop on board in the past 24 hours was former Notre Dame cornerback Scrap Richardson. He was originally recruited out of high school by Alex Golesh and his USF staff, and he committed to the Bulls until October of 2024, when he moved up in the rankings. He flipped to Notre Dame and signed with the Fighting Irish as an ATH, and played wide receiver. At Auburn, he is expected to play cornerback. From Greenville, Georgia, Richardson did not appear in any games for Notre Dame as a freshman, redshirted, and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
On the last day of the portal window, the Auburn Tigers are up to 28 incoming transfers, many of whom are familiar with Golesh and his staff from recruiting or their time at USF.
